McArthur Court in Eugene, Oregon is the home of Oregon Ducks Division-I Basketball Team. Also known as "the Pit" and "Mac Court" it is noted in college sports circles as one of the hardest courts to play on for opposing teams. This is due to the McArthur Court's seating arrangement with a capacity of 9,087 has student fans sitting around the maple floor, which is said to shake under their enthusiasm. In 2001 it was named "Best Gym in America" by Sporting News.
McArthur Court is the second oldest on-campus arena still in use. The Oregon Ducks men's basketball team played their first fame ever in the historic arena on January 14, 1927. The Oregon Ducks women's basketball team joined the men's teams in playing at McArthur Court on January 23, 1974. Hundreds of great games have been played on the arena including the undefeated home season in 2001-2002 which pushed the Oregon Duck's basketball team into the NCAA Elite Eight.
Although Duck's fans love McArthur arena, due to its relative small size it is not a good venue for large NCAA Division-I basketball match-ups, because of this the university decided in December 2008 to build the new 12,500 seat Matthew Knight Arena across campus on the site of the former William's Bakery, a longtime favorite of Oregon Ducks fans.
